Population: 10.52 million
Georgia is the ninth most populous state in the United States. In 2017, there were 7,392 emergency department visits; 2,279 hospitalizations; and 1,030 deaths involving opioid overdoses. As of June 2019, 25 of 159 counties in Georgia have agencies that are participating in ODMAP. The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) will provide support and resources to encourage statewide adoption of ODMAP, with statewide implementation within six months of the award, as well as to develop an Application Programming Interface (API) to streamline much of the data collection process for ODMAP. DPH will host two symposia, which will target first responders and law enforcement in an effort to provide training sessions on topics critical to successful ODMAP implementation and to provide an opportunity for communities to discuss their use of ODMAP data, their intervention strategies, and lessons learned.
