Georgia is the ninth most populous state in the United States. In 2017, there were 7,392 emergency department visits; 2,279 hospitalizations; and 1,030 deaths involving opioid overdoses. As of June 2019, 25 of 159 counties in Georgia had agencies that were participating in ODMAP. The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) provided support and resources to encourage statewide adoption of ODMAP and to develop an Application Programming Interface (API) to streamline much of the data collection process for ODMAP. DPH hosted two symposia, which targeted first responders and law enforcement in an effort to provide training sessions on topics critical to successful ODMAP implementation and to provide an opportunity for communities to discuss their use of ODMAP data, their intervention strategies, and lessons learned.
